    How Do You Open A Tesla With A Dead Battery?

    Like most electric cars, Tesla is powered by the main traction battery and a 12V lead-acid battery. However, if the 12V battery is completely discharged, your Tesla will be disabled, i. H. Doors, windows and headlights no longer work. So how can you open a Tesla with a dead battery?

    If your Tesla's door is closed and the battery is dead, you can open the door by charging the 12V battery from the trunk. The 12V battery is the one that powers the Tesla's doors and other auxiliary systems. It's also the same battery that turns on the headlights if the main 400V battery fails.

    Locate the towing eye cover on the driver's side front bumper. The two covers is usually a large circle. Pull it out by pressing the upper-right part of the cover until it slides inward, and then pull the cover toward you.

    Next, you will notice that two wires are connected to the cover or are in a hole and you need to slowly pull them out.

    Connect the 12V starter wires to the car wires. First, connect the red positive cable of the jump starter to the red positive cable of your Tesla. Then connect the black negative lead from the 12-volt starter to the black negative lead on your vehicle.

    Use your external jump starter to open the trunk.

    After opening the trunk, disconnect the wires. Start with the black wire and then the red wire.
    Reattach the cables to the tow cover and reattach the cover by inserting the cables into the opening and aligning the cover, starting with the bottom left corner first and then pushing it into place.

    Next, remove the large black plastic panel that contains the 12V lead-acid battery. In most cases, it is located above the trunk compartment. Incidentally, no tools are required to open the housing.

    Next, you can connect the red positive cable of the jump starter to the red positive terminal of the 12V battery. Also, connect the black negative cable from the jump starter to the black negative battery post.

    Apply power to the external jump starter.

    Give the car battery about 10 minutes. After a short time, the vehicle's computers will start up. The touchscreen also turns on.

    After applying power to the vehicle, disconnect the cables. Normally you should unplug the black wire first and then the red wire later.

    Reattach the previously removed black panels by snapping them into place. Make sure the panels are properly aligned before sliding them back in.

    Handle them with care as they are very fragile. Now you can open the door even if the 400V main drive battery has no power. The current in the 12V battery is enough to open the door and other auxiliary systems.

    Finally, drive to a charging station to charge your vehicle, and do not turn off the vehicle. If you do, you could get stuck in the car if you haven't fully charged it.

    Note: Since Tesla will notify you when your 12V battery is about to run out, it is important to charge it in good time to avoid draining the battery. Also, timely charging prolongs battery life.


    How can I remove a Tesla with a dead battery from the road?

    If your Tesla's battery dies in the middle of the road, you don't have to wait for the tow truck to pull it out of the way. As long as the 12V battery still has some charge, you can use it to push the car into neutral. Nevertheless, you should push the car slowly and for short distances.

    Note that the 12V battery and the 400V battery work differently. The 400V battery is responsible for running the engine, while the 12V battery is used for the vehicle's auxiliary functions. So if the vehicle's battery dies, the 12V battery will pause the touchscreen, which allows you to put the vehicle into neutral.

    What happens when a Tesla dies in a remote area?

    If your Tesla battery runs out in a remote area, the first thing you should do is find another car to jump-start you. Make sure the car is an internal combustion engine, as EVs can damage their engines by jump-starting other cars.
