On May 11, according to data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA), Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory produced 10,757 vehicles in April 2022, but only wholesaled 1,512 vehicles, and throughout April, there were no sales. Vehicles are exported from the Shanghai factory to other regions, and all sales are delivered domestically.
For comparison, Tesla’s China sales in March reached 65,184 vehicles, and Tesla’s April sales fell 97.6% month-on-month.
In this regard, Tesla explained that, unlike the way traditional manufacturers accumulate a large number of inventory vehicles, Tesla's direct sales model allows vehicles to be delivered directly from the production line to users, truly achieving zero inventory in the auto industry. In April, Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory was affected by the epidemic, and the production side directly affected the delivery side.
At present, Tesla is at full speed to promote the resumption of work and production. On May 7, Wu Qiang, deputy head of Shanghai Pudong New Area, introduced at a press conference on epidemic prevention and control in Shanghai that within 12 days from the resumption of work and production on April 19 to April 30, Tesla has been offline for 10,000 people. whole vehicle. Previously, on April 19, Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory, which had been shut down for 23 days, resumed production.
