Tesla Must Recall The Model Y Due To Software Defects

    Jul 03,2022 | Chloe Lacour

Tesla will probably have to recall around 60,000 vehicles. The reason is a technical problem in the emergency system in the Y and 3 models - and this probably also affects the new plant in Brandenburg Grünheide.

The Federal Motor Transport Authority has called on Tesla to recall its Model Y and Model 3. A total of 59,129 vehicles are said to be affected worldwide

The Y model series is also manufactured at the Tesla plant in Grünheide (Oder-Spree). It has not yet been confirmed whether vehicles that rolled off the assembly line in Grünheide are specifically affected. However, several users in the "Tesla Drivers and Friends" forum have reported a corresponding delivery stop. So far, there has been no statement from the US electric car manufacturer.

    Emergency call function affected

The Federal Motor Transport Authority, which is responsible for the general registration of vehicles, had confirmed to rbb on Monday that there was currently no recall campaign for the Tesla Model Y. However, a recall action was activated in the database on Friday afternoon. There it is said that a software error leads to the failure of the e-call system on Model Y and Model 3, which were produced in 2022. In the event of a serious accident, the system automatically alerts the emergency number.

According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority, affected owners should call the manufacturer or go to an authorized workshop.

In the online forum, more and more customers have been complaining for almost a week that their delivery date has been postponed. According to the information, some are only a few days, others weeks. According to the forum, Tesla itself justified this with “safety-related deficiencies”.

Tesla appears to have already started troubleshooting. Because there are also forum posts in which customers write that they were able to pick up their Tesla this week as planned.
