Installation Instructions

Tools Required
- Plastic pry tool set (to avoid scratching trunk lid and trim panel)

- Torque wrench (set to 2.4 Nm)

- Microfiber cloth & isopropyl alcohol (for cleaning)

- Tesla diagnostic tool (for calibration, mandatory after replacement)

Installation Steps

1. Turn off the vehicle and disconnect the 12V battery negative terminal for safety. Fully open the trunk lid.

2. Remove the trunk lid inner trim panel: gently pry the hidden clips around the trim panel with a plastic tool (4 clips for 2012–2016 models, 5 clips for 2017–2018 models), then take down the trim panel.

3. Disconnect the camera connector: pull the red locking tab gently to unlock, then separate the 4-pin waterproof connector (do not pull the wiring directly to avoid damage).

4. Remove the old camera: use a torque wrench to remove the 2 M4 screws (2.4 Nm torque) that fix the camera to the release switch bracket, then gently pull out the camera and release switch assembly from the outside of the trunk lid.

5. Clean the mounting surface and the new camera: wipe the bracket and camera surface with isopropyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth, ensuring no dust, oil, or fingerprints (especially on the camera lens).

6. Install the new camera: align the white positioning mark on the camera with the slot on the bracket, push the camera and release switch assembly into the trunk lid mounting hole until the elastic clips lock. Tighten the 2 M4 screws to 2.4 Nm torque.

7. Reconnect the camera connector until the red locking tab clicks into place. Secure the wiring with the original clips, ensuring it passes through the rubber waterproof seal and is protected by the corrugated tube.

8. Reinstall the trunk lid inner trim panel, press firmly around the edges to lock all clips in place.

9. Reconnect the 12V battery negative terminal. Calibrate the camera with a Tesla diagnostic tool to ensure accurate backup trajectory lines.

10. Test the backup camera: shift to reverse gear, check if the backup image is clear on the center display and the trajectory lines match the actual direction.

Important Warnings

- ✅ Do NOT touch the camera lens — fingerprints or oil stains will cause blurry images and affect parking safety.

- ✅ Calibration is mandatory after replacement — without calibration, the backup trajectory lines will be inaccurate.

- ✅ Ensure the rubber waterproof seal is fully seated to prevent rainwater or car wash water from seeping into the trunk.

- ✅ Use only plastic tools to avoid scratching the trunk lid, trim panel, or damaging the elastic clips.

- ✅ Tighten the M4 screws to 2.4 Nm torque — over-tightening will damage the bracket or camera.

- ✅ Do not pull or bend the camera wiring excessively; use the corrugated tube to protect the wiring from friction.

- ✅ Professional installation is recommended. Consult a certified Tesla technician if you are not familiar with vehicle maintenance.

Note: This camera is only compatible with Tesla Model S 2012–2018. Please confirm your vehicle’s production year before installation to avoid compatibility issues.
