The Front Trunk Soft Close Lock Actuator for Tesla Model 3/Y (1684578) restores proper frunk self-closing and secure hood latching. Built to factory specs with an integrated motor and OEM-style connector, it helps fix hood-open warnings and hard-closing issues.

Key Features:

Compatibility: Engineered to fit Tesla Model 3 and Model Y front trunk systems, including updated refresh models. The mounting bracket geometry and latch alignment are built to match factory specifications for proper positioning inside the frunk compartment.

Durable Steel Mounting Structure: Constructed with a reinforced metal bracket to maintain alignment under repeated opening and closing cycles. The coated surface helps resist corrosion caused by moisture or temperature changes.

Complete Latch and Motor Assembly: The unit includes the electric actuator motor, internal gearing, and latch mechanism pre-assembled in one housing. This design simplifies installation and avoids the need to transfer small internal components from the original mechanism.

Restores Soft-Close Frunk Function: When the hood is lowered into place, the integrated motor engages and pulls it securely into the fully closed position. This reduces the need to press down hard on the hood and helps maintain consistent closing performance.

Factory-Style Electrical Connector: Equipped with an OEM-style plug that connects directly to the existing wiring harness. No cutting, rewiring, or additional adapters are required, which helps streamline installation.

Multiple Control Methods: Unlock your front trunk through various convenient methods, including the central touchscreen and mobile app functionalities. This diverse range of control options adds flexibility and ease to your user experience.

Addresses Common Frunk Latch Issues: A worn or failing actuator may cause the frunk to remain partially open, require extra force to close, or trigger a hood-open warning on the screen. Replacing the latch assembly often resolves these issues and restores normal operation.

Specifications:

Vehicle Compatibility: Tesla Model 3/Y

Location: Front trunk (frunk)

Clicking sound without full latch engagement

Installation Steps

1. Remove the Frunk Trim & Basin
  • Use the pry tool to remove the plastic top cover (the piece with the emergency button).
  • Unbolt the screws securing the frunk storage tub (usually 4–6 bolts).
  • Lift the entire storage basin out of the car to expose the factory mechanical lock.
2. Detach the Factory Lock
  • Unplug: Disconnect the electrical sensor plug from the original lock.
  • Unbolt: Use a 10mm socket to remove the two main bolts holding the lock assembly.
  • Unhook Cables: Carefully unhook the two manual release cables (the interior emergency release and the exterior pull cable) from the factory lock.
3. Install the Electric Suction Lock
  • Transfer Cables: Hook the two factory release cables onto the corresponding levers of the new electric suction lock.
  • Mounting: Align the new lock with the original bolt holes and tighten it using the factory 10mm bolts.
  • Check: Ensure the latch moves freely and the cables are not pinched.
4. Wiring and Connection
  • Plug & Play: Connect the suction lock’s wiring harness between the factory plug and the new motor unit (no wire cutting required).
  • Cable Management: Use zip ties to secure any loose wiring away from moving parts or fans to prevent rattling.
5. Testing and Reassembly
  • Manual Test: Before closing the hood, use a screwdriver to push down the latch to "simulated closed." Use the Tesla App or screen to "Open" and confirm the latch pops up.
  • Suction Test: Gently lower the hood until it touches the latch. The motor should engage and pull the hood down into a locked position automatically.
  • Reassemble: If everything works, put the frunk tub and top plastic covers back in reverse order.
⚠️ Critical Safety Checks:
  • Emergency Pull: Always verify that the front manual emergency pull cable still works while the hood is locked to avoid being "locked out" during a power failure.
  • Alignment: If the hood sits too high or low, rotate the black rubber bumpers on the underside of the hood to adjust the gap.
